Remote Monitoring & Diagnostic Technician I or II | Clipper Wind | Cedar Rapids, IA

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the monitoring, collection, and analysis of operational data from Clipper Windpower turbines and wind projects. Primary responsibilities focus on turbine mechanical or electrical troubleshooting via web-based data and real-time command of turbine functions. This position is also responsible for the early identification of issues ultimately resulting in the prompt and timely response of on-site maintenance technicians. Turbine Remote Monitoring Technicians also interact with internal and external customers to provide real-time troubleshooting support for turbine issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Uses web-based monitoring Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) software to track and troubleshoot Clipper Windpower turbines that result in:
    • Reduced risk of damages and operating costs
    • Increased unit efficiency and availability
    • Decreased repair times
    • Avoidance/reduction of forced outages
    • Uses scheduling and tracking software to initiate on-site maintenance, and report activities as they occur in the field.
  • Follows proper reporting procedures, and initiates backup processes as required.
  • Acts as 'front line' interface for operating turbines when local on-site technicians are not present.
  • May be assigned secondary documentation responsibilities as requested by management.
  • Follows established company guidelines.
  • Will be expected to work during 2nd or 3rd shifts to maintain proper monitoring responsibilities when on-site technicians are not typically available. Every effort to establish set hours will be made when this position is filled, but alternate shifts to maintain coverage may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Must have proven technical skill skills, including data acquisition and reporting, troubleshooting experience, ideally in a mechanical or electrical capacity.
  • Must have advanced skills with MS Word, Excel, and Access. Must be capable of learning:
    • Wind Turbine assembly, installation, and maintenance concepts
    • SCADA (or similar) monitoring software
    • Renewable Energy industry concepts
  • Ability to communicate well in a busy work environment.
  • Must have an understanding and familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
The ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, raw data, or mechanical instructions. The ability to write detailed reports, business correspondence, and action summaries as a result of measures taken by RMC technicians or field personnel. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define issues, collect raw data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and act appropriately in response to all data gathered.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Working in and around wind turbine projects can be a very demanding occupation. Employees must be able to perform the following.
  • Climb tower ladders up to 300' in height as required
  • Perform basic office and computer work.
  • Stand, sit & walk as needed in both office and field requirements
  • Ability to drive vehicles in field locations if needed.
  • Must be able to hear adequately in order to work safely in a construction environment.

TRAVEL
Initial travel to wind farm sites for training, familiarization, and orientation to large wind turbine generators.

Initial travel to be 2 to 6 weeks with additional travel of up to 30% of time to meet business goals and objectives
